The word Awliya is the plural of Wali which means ‘friend, loving person, or helper’. Someone who loves Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ and receives His help or support is called a Wali of Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ. Believing in Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ and abiding by His commands leads one to become His friend. The major sign of Allah’s Wali is that seeing him reminds you of Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ and the Hereafter; it is not necessary for the wali to show a marvel as people usually assume.
